- 国立教育政策研究所では、平成23年11月24日に公開シンポジウム「東日本大震災と学校」を開催し、被災地における学校運営や教育指導の取組状況と諸外国での震災対応事例を紹介するとともに、極めて困難な状況下での懸命な取組と関係者の想いを国内外に向け情報発信した。これに引き続き、学校建築の視点に立って、耐震対策や災害復興に関する海外の現状及び避難所となる学校の実態や課題をテーマとする講演会を平成24年1月24日に開催した。第１部では、日本と同じ地震国で耐震設計の先進国でもあるニュージーランドの取組について、同国教育省のキム･シャノン部長に説明していただいた。第２部では、自ら赴かれた現地調査の知見を基に、避難所となった学校の実態と地域社会に果たした役割について首都大学東京の上野副学長から、学校建築の被害実態について東京大学地震研究所の壁谷澤教授からご説明いただいた。この報告書はこれらの講演の模様を英語版として収録したものである。
