Note (General): 平成16・17・19～21年度の５ヶ年計画で実施した沿岸地域遺跡分布調査により、沖縄県内全域で143ヶ所の水中遺跡及び沿岸遺跡を確認した。内訳は沈没船９ヶ所・水中遺物散布地11ヶ所・港湾遺跡30ヶ所・海岸遺物散布地16ヶ所・生産遺跡76ヶ所・貝塚１ヶ所で、既に市町村教育委員会の分布調査や沖縄県教育委員会の生産遺跡分布調査などで把握済みの遺跡も一部含まれるが、大半はこれまで周知されていなかった遺跡である。今回はこれに17世紀作成の『正保国絵図』に記載された港57ヶ所（うち10ヶ所が港湾遺跡と同じ場所に立地）と、関連文化財21件を加えた合計211件を報告対象とする。　水中遺跡や沿岸遺跡は、四方を海に面した本県の地理的及び歴史的な特性を端的に示すものであるとともに、古くから海に育まれた沖縄の歴史を理解するうえでも欠かせない文化財である。本県では現在もリゾート開発や大規模な埋立及び護岸工事が盛んであり、遺跡が所在する海岸などの旧地形も年々失われていることから、今回の成果に基づいて水中遺跡・沿岸遺跡の適切な保護を図る必要がある。
