Note (General): 調査では部分的ではあるが、中世の遺構面1面と近世の遺構面4面を確認した。もっとも上面の第1遺構面は江戸時代中期から幕末にかけての面で、同一面で昭和20年の空襲被災面も確認した。この面では屋敷の境界に作られた土塀基礎のほか井戸・竪穴建物などを検出した。江戸時代前半頃から中頃にかけての面は第2•第2-遣構面で確認しており、屋敷地に関わる井戸や石組遺構などを検出した。第3遺構面は織豊時代から江戸時代前半頃にかけての面であると考えられ、井戸や柱穴以外に堀を検出した。堀は三の丸が家臣の屋敷地になる以前の遺構である可能性があり、初期和歌山城の外郭ラインに掘削された防御を目的としたものであると考えることもできる。第4遺構面は和歌山城築城以前の面で、柱穴や土坑などを検出した。このように、屋敷地の様子や変遷の一端が明らかになると共に、和歌山城築城以前の様相を探る資料を得ることができた。
