Note (General): 温根沼３遺跡は、根室市街から南西へ約９㎞、温根沼地区の海岸段丘上（標高23ｍ前後）から無名沢の源流部（標高16ｍ前後）にかけて広がる。　遺構はⅢ層で土坑８基（ⅢＰ－１～８）、焼土１か所（ⅢＦ－１）、礫集中５か所を検出した。これらの時期は判然としないが、周囲の遺物出土状況からみて、64ライン以東のものは擦文文化期後期またはオホーツク文化期の可能性がある。　Ⅴ層では、土坑墓１基（ⅤＰ－１）、焼土６か所（ⅤＦ－１～６）、土器集中４か所、礫集中４か所を検出した。いずれも縄文時代早期のものである。土坑墓（ⅤＰ－１）は平面形が長径約1.3ｍの楕円形で、坑底の西北隅から小型の土器1個体が出土した。斜面下の平坦部で検出した焼土４か所（ⅤＦ－１～４）は、約２ｍの間隔をあけて一列に並んでおり、その周囲では黒曜石の剝片石器が比較的多く出土した。土器集中１・４は東釧路Ⅲ式、２は同Ⅱ式、３は東釧路Ⅱ式・同Ⅲ式の破片のまとまりである。礫集中１は、拳よりやや大きな礫・礫片約1,500個が５×６ｍの範囲にまとまっており、一部ではそれらが隙間なく密集していた。礫・礫片の大部分は被熱している。　遺物は土器約6,300点、石器等約5,600点を数える。土器の大半はⅤ層から出土した縄文時代早期の東釧路Ⅱ式・同Ⅲ式である。Ⅴ層の石器では、石鏃、スクレイパー、彫刻刀形石器、砥石が目に付く他、石刃鏃が２点出土している。Ⅲ層の遺物は少ないが、続縄文時代や擦文文化期後期の土器、貼付文の施されたオホーツク式土器、鉄鍋片等がある。
