Note (General): 調査では、逆Ｌ字状に屈曲する堀を検出した。願海寺城本丸の堀と考えられる。堀は旧堀と新堀の2時期あることが分かった。旧堀は15世紀前半～中頃に掘削され、後に埋没したと考えられ、その後に16世紀前半～中頃に願海寺城の堀として、旧堀に沿って新堀を掘削され、天正9(1581)年の落城まで機能していた。旧堀は、願海寺地区の加茂社およびその加茂社に隣接して存在した神宮寺を取り囲む堀、もしくは、願海寺を領知していたと伝わる畠山持富の代わりに願海寺を治めていた国人層の武家居館の堀の可能性があると考えられる。
