Note (General): 遺跡は、常願寺川と白岩川に挟まれた低地部に位置する。水橋池田舘遺跡は、水橋池田舘の現集落を中心とした遺跡東側一帯の自然堤防状の微高地に中世末から近世の集落が営まれている。方形の屋敷地を二重に囲う堀を検出しており、１辺50ｍ前後になると想定できる。集落の位置する微高地の東側・北側では、縞状・水紋のある砂層が広がり旧河道・洪水氾濫原、西側・南側は砂層の下にピート状の粘土層が厚く堆積しており、旧河道及び湿地状の地形とみられる。水橋池田舘Ⅱ遺跡は、水橋池田舘遺跡の北方200ｍにあり、白岩川と川原田川に三方を囲まれている。明治24(1891)年にはじまる大改修以前の常願寺川と白岩川の合流地点付近にあたる。調査地区内では全域で砂層が厚く堆積しており、旧河道または洪水氾濫原であったことが窺える。水橋中村遺跡は、水橋池田舘遺跡の西方300ｍに位置している。遺構・遺物は確認できず薄い砂層の下に植物遺体を含む粘土層が厚く堆積しており、湿地状の地形と考えられる。
