Note (General): [植城遺跡要約] 　発見された遺構は、土塁の痕跡、埋め立てられた堀の痕跡、盛り土されて再利用された郭の敷地などである。特に堀は土塁天頂部の推定幅は13ｍを越え、深さ5ｍもある巨大な堀であったと推測される。　また、郭については、発見できた遺構群からも、現況地表面から20〜40下に遺構面が残っていることは確実である。甲賀郡内の城郭には他府県では認められないような巨大な土塁で囲われた屋敷地が集中していることがわかっていたが、これらはそれを示す格好の事例といえるであろう。　また、今後の比較検討できる格好の資料となった。このように、今回の発掘調査が明確にした成果は、日本城郭研究や地域史の再構築という意味において、多大な貢献をしたものと言える。
