Note (General): [後通遺跡要約] 後通遺跡は、下総国府推定地である国府台の南東、真間川に面した低地に位置する。発掘調査の結果、中近世陶磁器類をはじめ、多数の遺物が出土し、砂堆上の広範囲に溝や土坑が多数展開している状況を確認した。なお、縄文土器などの出土状態は流れ込みと理解できるものであったが、この点は、縄文時代晩期頃、海退に伴い沖積地とその中を流れる真間川水系が出現したことにより砂堆が形成されたという地質学的研究成果と矛盾しない。古代の遺構では、９世紀中頃に廃絶したとみられる井戸の存在が特筆される。井戸枠と曲物を設置した井戸の中に流れ込んだ土器片の中には、墨書土器(「国」・「舘」)があった。また、調査地内から二彩陶器、緑釉陶器が出土しており、古代における遺跡の性格に関して、水場の機能を備えた下総国府関連遺跡という様相を推測できる。ほかに、時期的に遡る可能性がある遺構には、真間川に近い砂堆南部において検出された道路状遺構と溝がある。溝や土坑の大半は、中近世のものと捉えられるが、それらの中には、中世後半から近世にかけて機能していたとみられる堰状木組み遺構を設けた水路もあった。この時期の遺構群については、近世の絵図にみえる調査地の西側隣接地にあった「神主屋敷」の周縁部における土地利用の一端を示すものと考えられる。
