Note (General): 長者山城跡は，眼下に那珂川を望む比高20ｍの台地を利用して築かれている。今次調査は城域中央東部の台地縁辺において実施され，縄文時代早期を最古に中世までの遺物が出土した。遺構からみた土地の利用は，縄文時代早期に猟場となり，７世紀末～８世紀前半には製鉄（精錬）及び金属加工と漆を扱う工房，中世末には城郭として機能し，破城によって終焉を迎えたことが明らかになっている。なお，工房は帯金具の出土から官営の可能性が指摘される。
