Note (General): 朝酌矢田Ⅱ遺跡は、大橋川が最も河川幅員を狭める北岸に位置し、北側には低丘陵が迫る。『出雲国風土記』島根郡条に「朝酌促戸」として登場する地域である。奈良時代においては、出雲国庁から隠岐国へ至る古代官道「枉北道」が縦断し、水陸両交通の要衝であったことが知られている。遺跡北側の低丘陵では小規模な方墳が2基検出され、河川に面する低地では古代の礫敷遺構が2箇所で確認された。後者は、『出雲国風土記』記載の渡し場「朝酌渡」に関連する施設である可能性が高いことが明らかとなった。古代官道に伴う渡し場の発見は全国的にも希少であり、古代の交通や土木技術を考える上で注目される。またこうした成果は、考古学・古代史研究に大きく寄与するだけでなく、古代出雲の実態を把握する上でも重要な成果といえる。
