語意学習は初期の即時マッピングのフェーズとその後の意味分野の再構造化に伴う語意の再調整のフェーズがある。本研究は、語彙の中でも特に核となる動詞の学習に焦点を置き、二つのフェーズのメカニズムを実験的に検討した。動詞の即時マッピングは名詞のそれよりも難しいこと、それが言語普遍的な現象であるという知見が得られた。即時マッピングの後に長い時間をかけて語意の再調整をしていくこと、再調整の過程にどのような手がかりが用いられ、どのような要因が関わるのかを明らかにした。
