腸管病原性大腸菌(EPEC)が腸管に定着するための定着機構や免疫制御機構に関しては、まだ不明な点が多く残されている。そこで、マウスを用いて、パイエル板と付着の関係およびEPECのIII型分泌装置が樹状細胞に及ぼす影響を調べた。その結果、C.rodentiumiとパイエル板欠損マウスを用いた実験から、パイエル板が存在することによって、菌の定着が増大することが明らかとなった。また、菌のIII型分泌装置は、樹状細胞や上皮細胞に作用し、さまざまな遺伝子の発現を制御していることが明らかとなった。
