正常な下垂体の発生・分化には非常に多くの転写因子が複雑なカスケードを形成しながら関与しており、近年それら転写因子の遺伝子変異によるヒト先天性下垂体機能低下症(Congenital pituitary hormone deficiency,以下CPHD)の報告が相次いでいる。今回我々はCPHD患者30例においてゲノムワイドCGHアレイを行い、PAX6遺伝子のエンハンサーを含む下流領域に350kbの欠失を同定した。以上の成績は眼の発生に必須と考えられているPAX6はヒト下垂体の発生分化にも必須であることを世界で初めて明確にするものである。
