本研究では、新規に発見したアトピー性皮膚炎(AD)様皮膚炎発症の候補遺伝子ma1に注目し、ma1タンパクの機能を明らかにするとともに、AD自然発症マウスであるflaky tail(ft―・ma―)と、戻し交配によって作出したmatted マウス(ma―)を用いて (1)角質機能の解析(2)角質内脂質の成分解析(3)細胞内脂質の解析といった皮膚バリア機能解析を実施し、AD様皮膚炎発症機構の解明を目指した。
