実行機能の個人差は, 幼児期初期にはほぼ環境要因の影響から説明されるが, 年齢があがるにつれて, 遺伝要因の影響がみられ始めるということが分かった。さまざまな養育態度のうち, 「過保護な養育態度」は, 同時点における実行機能とは独立の効果として, 後の実行機能を低めることや「過保護な養育態度」は, 遺伝的影響とは独立した環境要因(主に, 共有環境要因)として実行機能の発達に影響を及ぼすことが明らかにされた。 Findings from this study suggested that 1) the individual difference in executive function at early childhood was explained mostly by environmental influences, while the genetic influences emerged with age, 2) overprotection by parents negatively influenced on the development of executive function, and 3) the association between overprotection by parents and later executive function was mediated by shared environmental influences.
