ヘテロP23Hロドプシン変異マウスの網膜視細胞層の菲薄化は生後6週で既に明らかで、生後10週ではさらに進行していた。生後3週齢でTUNEL assay陽性細胞すなわちアポトーシスを生じた細胞が視細胞でのみ見られた。ミトコンドリア抗酸化剤を3週齢から連日投与し、組織学的変化を解析したところ、6週齢においてアポトーシス細胞はむしろ増加していた。この結果は予想に反したものであったが、ミトコンドリア抗酸化剤は網膜色素変性症の病態に変化を与えたことになり、ミトコンドリアの状態が、病態と関連する可能性があると考えられた。 Thinning of the retinal photoreceptor cell layer in the heterozygotes of P23H rhodopsin mutant mice was significant in the postnatal 6 weeks old, and further progressed in the 10 weeks old. TUNEL positive cells and apoptotic cells were observed only in the photoreceptor layer at 3 weeks old. Mitochondria targeting antioxidant was constantly administered to the model from the age of 3 weeks old. The apoptotic cells were increased at 6 weeks old. The results were not what we had expected, however, we found that mitochondria condition affected the pathogenesis of the retinitis pigmentosa.
