• Note (General): type:text; フランス「古典主義」美術を代表するニコラ・プッサン(1594-1665)は、ローマに活動の拠点を置き、イタリアや母国の美術愛好家たちに向けた中型のタブローを制作したことで知られている。物語画に秀でた画家であるが、同時に彼は、物語的な要素の希薄な礼拝像のイメージ「聖家族」を生涯の間に幾度か集中して手掛けた。中でも、彼がフランスの注文主たちに向けて描いた一連の「聖家族」は、どの作品も明るい風景の中に聖家族が配されており、彼が同時期に追求していた理想的風景画と、ラファエロから着想を得た聖家族像を独自に合成したものと言える。それらを彼は、1648年から51年という短期間に連続して制作したのである。なぜプッサンはこの時期に集中して「聖家族」を描き、フランスに送ったのだろうか。 これらの作品がローマで描かれていた頃、パリでは、1648年に王立絵画彫刻アカデミーが設立され、それを機に美術に関する著作が次々と出版された。それらの著作の中で、プッサンは、ラファエロに比肩するフランスの当代画家として言及され、称揚されている。そしてまさにこの時期以降、プッサンのフランスの顧客層が一気に拡大するのである。プッサンの一連の「聖家族」は間違いなくその要因のひとつだった。パリの美術愛好家たちは、「フランスのラファエロ」という評判が高まりつつあるプッサンの作品に関心を持ち、とりわけラファエロの代名詞と言える「聖家族」の主題に食指を動かしたのだろう。加えて、フランスでは、ピエール・ド・ベリュールらのフランス霊性の影響から、聖家族信仰が高まっており、「聖家族」は人気の図像であった。プッサンは様々な象徴的モティーフを画面に挿入して、顧客たちの期待に応えている。本研究では、一連の「聖家族」が、アカデミーの規範たる「フランスの」画家としてのプッサン像の醸成に、大きく寄与していたことを示し、彼の後期宗教画が持つ新たな側面を明らかにした。 Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) is a representative painter of the 17th century French "classicism". His career as artist was based in Rome and he was known as a medium-size tableaux creator for art lovers in Italy and his home country. He was good at history paintings, meanwhile he has also, from time to time in his life, worked intensively on "the Holy Family", the cult images with little historical elements. Among these works, the sceneries portrayed in "the Holy Family" for his French clients were exceedingly bright and vivid, which can be regarded as an ideal landscape long pursued in that period of time, and a unique combination with the images of Raphael's "Holy Family". He worked on those pieces continuously in a short period from year 1648 to 1651 - for what reasons Poussin focused on "the Holy Family" to send to France? When he was working on these pieces in Rome, the Royal academy of painting and sculpture was established in Paris thus a number of books about arts got published in which Poussin was depicted comparable with Raphael as a contemporary artist in France at that time. Since then, Poussin's supporters were enormously and rapidly increased in a wide range because of, still, his "Holy Family" series. Art lovers in Paris entitled him "Raphael in France" and showed great interest in his work along with "the Holy Family", which had been Raphael's representative subject. Furthermore, under the influence of French school of spirituality by Pierre de Bérulle, faith towards "the Holy Family" was strong in France that its image took the country by storm. Poussin continued to work on various emblematic motifs to live up to the expectations from his clients. In this study, we aim to reveal how the series of "the Holy Family" nurtured Poussin as a "French" artist as molded by the academy, as well as new aspects of his late religious paintings that have not been studied so far.
