北陸地方の要支援高齢者が健康を保つために必要な照度を明らかにするため、北陸地方のA県内の地域包括支援センターに協力を依頼し、A県の要支援高齢者44名の冬季の照度の実態と、睡眠、活動、心身の健康について調査し、照度が睡眠、活動、心身の健康に及ぼす影響を分析した。活動時間帯と就床時間帯の照度比が大きい程、老年期うつ病評価尺度簡易版の得点が有意に低く、また屋内で過ごす時間帯の平均照度が201lxと低かったことから、起床後の活動時間帯に明るい照度を浴び、就床時には暗い照度下で休むことが出来る明暗サイクルのある照度環境を整えることが要支援高齢者の精神的な健康を保持していくことに繋がる可能性が示唆された。
We sought to elucidate the illuminance needed to maintain health in elderly individuals requiring assistance in the Hokuriku region of Japan. We conducted a survey of 44 elderly individuals in Prefecture A with the cooperation of a local comprehensive community support center. We surveyed their illuminance, their sleep, activity, and psychosomatic health and analyzed the effect of illuminance on each of these variables. A greater contrast in illuminance between activity time and time spent in bed was associated with significantly lower scores in the short form of the Geriatric Depression Scale. Moreover, average illuminance during time spent indoors was low at 201 lx, suggesting that a suitable illuminance environment with contrasting cycles of bright light during post-waking activity and darkness when resting in bed could help to maintain mental health in frail elderly individuals.
