鉛直方向縮流と横方向拡大の両方を持つ特殊保積ダクトを使って、安定した線形成層流体中の格子形成乱流を検討した。本研究では、乱流運動エネルギーと有効ポテンシャルエネルギー間の周期的エネルギー変換の結果である、時間に対する鉛直熱流束振動の第2サイクルを確認した。鉛直熱流束とLienhard & Van Atta(無ひずみダクト)ならびにThoroddsen & Van Atta(流れ方向ひずみダクト)による既報実験との比較の結果、流れ方向ひずみダクトと同様に、上記特殊ダクトが強力な逆勾配拡散に帰着する高い有効ポテンシャルエネルギーを生み出すことが明らかになった。
Grid generated turbulence in a stably and linearly stratified fluid was investigated using a special area-preserving duct which has both a vertical contraction and a lateral expansion. In this study, the second cycle of the oscillation of the vertical heat-flux with time could be identified, which is a result of the periodic energy exchange between the turbulent kinetic energy and the available potential energy. The comparison of the vertical heat flux with that of the previous experiments by Lienhard & Van Atta (non-distorted duct) and by Thoroddsen & Van Atta (longitudinally distorted duct) revealed that the special duct, similarly to the longitudinally distorted duct, has produced a high available potential energy which lead to a stronger counter-gradient flux.
