- 吉田松陰（１８３０～１８５９）は、長州藩士で幕末の志士の一人。松下村塾を開き、子弟に大きな影響を与える。嘉永４年（１８５１）１２月、江戸を出立して水戸付近に滞在、翌５年１月、北上して会津から越後に入り、佐渡、秋田、弘前を経て３月上旬青森に至る。ここから南下し、盛岡、仙台、足利を経て４月上旬房総の関宿に帰着した。各地で名士・文人と会談し、当時の情勢を論じている。
