乾敏郎（追手門学院大学心理学部教授、京都大学名誉教授、専門は言語・非言語コミュニケーション機能の認知神経科学的研究)
最近感情を含む脳の多くの機能を捉えるための大統一理論が提案された。それが「自由エネルギー原理」と呼ばれる理論だ。人間や動物の脳がヘルムホルツの自由エネルギーを最小化するように働くことで、知覚、認知、注意、運動などが適切に機能しているという理論である。
感情というものを理解するうえで、自分の身体の状態がわかるという脳機能が最も重要であり、あたまとからだとこころがつながっていて初めて健全な感情をもつことができると乾敏郎氏はいう。「脳が身体の状態を理解するしくみ（ヘルムホルツの無意識的推論）」と「脳が身体をうまく調整するしくみ（フリストンの能動的推論とよばれる機能）」について解説し、感情は、時々刻々と変化する身体の状態と環境（状況）の理解から生まれるものという最新の感情理論を紹介する。
