- 自然の生態や山岳写真に先駆的な業績を残した田淵行男の業績の集大成で待望の書！日本を代表する山岳写真家であるとともに、高山蝶をはじめとする昆虫の生態研究、民俗学の貴重な記録となる雪形研究など、幅広い分野に多大な功績を残した田淵行男。作家の近藤信行は、田淵の足跡を緻密な取材で丹念に追い、鳥取県の山村に生まれ育った幼年時代から安曇野を舞台に広く活躍する晩年までの生涯を克明に描いた田淵初の評伝として完成させた。『山と渓谷』1990年1月号から翌年の8月号まで20回にわたって連載された「安曇野のナチュラリスト 田淵行男」の単行本化。連載時の内容を、書籍として読みやすくするために構成を下記のように改めた。序章・常念岳の麓1章・孤独の淵2章・心の彷徨3章・雌伏のとき4章・安曇野の博物誌5章・高山蝶との出会い6章・山岳写真と生態写真7章・大雪の蝶8章・安曇野挽歌終章・命ひとつ田淵の思いを継承する若い世代の人々を集めた座談会「『田淵行男』を伝える使命」を企画し、田淵行男記念館、田淵行男賞、むしの会の活動などを話し合ってもらい、連載から四半世紀たった現在でも継続している田淵の功績を検証している。モノクロームの山岳写真、蝶の細密画、雪形など口絵も24ページ挿入、巻末には田淵の全著作、詳細な年譜も掲載している。また11月29日22時から1時間、NHK/BSで、人物ノンフィクション『蝶の山脈――安曇野を愛した男』の放映も予定されている。
