- 米日の支配・従属関係の原型は、太平洋戦争の勝者と敗者との上下・優劣関係のなかで形成された。米国主導のこの「日米非対称システム」が生んだ天皇制温存、新憲法、旧・新安保条約が戦後日本にとって何を意味するかを分析。米国優位を許す弱者日本独自の理由を考察する。また冷戦後の安保条約変容を検証。中国台頭・米国後退の中、政治的自立を欠く日本を厳しく見据える視点から、相応の軍事的負担を担いつつ民主主義を確たるものにするため、いま日本国民が何をすべきかを問う。
