【書評1】
本書は忙しい研修医のために，臨床論文を効率よく読む方法や抄読会での発表のコツを図解やイラストを用いてわかりやすく解説しています．ほとんどの研修医は，これまで臨床論文の 読み方を体系的に学んだ機会はなかったでしょう．しかし，evidence-based medicine（EBM）が現代の医療の基本的な考え方になっている臨床現場で，臨床論文から知識を蓄え，最新の 研究成果に基づいた医療を実践することは，研修医にとっても責務といえます．突然臨床の荒波にさらされる研修医にとって，実践的な内容が多く，論文の選び方から読み込み方，プレゼンテーションまでの一連の流れが学べる本書は，まさに最短・最速に臨床論文の読み方を学べる攻略本といえます．
本書では，まず読むべき論文として，自分の興味のある分野でインパクトファクターが高く厳格な査読をクリアした『NEJM』，『Lancet』，『JAMA』，『BMJ』といったトップジャーナルがあげられています．また，本書は論文に書かれている介入試験や観察研究といった臨床研究の種類や研究デザインが図解を交えてわかりやすく解説されており，さらに論文を読んだり書いたりするときに避けて通れない統計解析について説明されています．統計解析については，Kaplan-Meier曲線やハザード比とオッズ比の違いなど，具体的な例が図を用いて説明されていて，非常にわかりやすい解説であるといえます．そして abstract，introduction，methods，results，discussion といった論文の型について，重要なポイントと分析の方法が解説されています．
近年，AI を活用した DeepL（DeepL SE 社）や Microsoft Copilot（Microsoft 社）といった翻訳ツールにより英文が即座に日本語に変換され，たいへん便利な時代になりました．使用したことのある方は多いと思いますが，英語学習という観点からは当然のごとく賛否両論があります．しかし本書では，論文の内容を正確に理解することが一番重要であることを訴え，あえて最初のうちはこういった翻訳ツールをうまく活用することの意義を説いています．
本書は論文に書かれている研究結果について，批判的吟味が重要であると説いています．この論点は非常に重要で，そもそも臨床研究は患者のための研究であり，実際に研究結果を患者に適用できるかどうかを考える必要があります．その研究結果が正しいかどうかという内的妥当性を検討し，さらにその研究結果が一般的（研究の集団以外）に適用できるかという外的妥当性を検討することが大切であると述べられています．批判的に論文を読めてこそ EBM を実践できるようになるといえるでしょう．
