【改訂第5 版増補の序】
本書は薬学6 年制導入初年度の2006 年に発刊された初版をスタートに，改訂モデル・コアカリキュラム導入後の薬学生の教育に使用されてきた．この間改訂を重ね，この度改訂第5 版増補となった．
初版の序でも述べているように，本書は，医療現場において新しい医薬品（製剤）が次々と登場し承認審査体制も変化するなかで，薬の専門家として責任をもってチーム医療や医薬品開発に参画できる薬学生の育成を目的に刊行された． 第Ⅰ章「製剤の基礎物理化学」，第Ⅱ章「医薬品の開発と品質・安全性の確保」，第Ⅲ章「各種医薬品製剤」，第Ⅳ章「臨床製剤」という4 部構成となっており，製剤の基礎から，医薬品の開発・承認，各種剤形，臨床現場での製剤（医薬品）の実際について順序だてて学習できるようになっているが，オムニバス的な各章の学習も可能である．
改訂第5 版においては，第十八改正日本薬局方への対応の必要性，新しい臨床製剤登場等を考慮し，大幅な改訂を行い，かつ薬学生に使用しやすいよう工夫をした．以下にその変更内容について記す．
・ 全章を通じて学生がイメージしにくい特殊な剤形や製剤機械等のイラスト，写真を多数追加した．
