【書評】
「いまだかつてない切り口からみる新人類による21世紀の神経診断学入門書」
神経疾患の診療・研究は分子生物学，画像診断の飛躍的発展を受けて，病態が次々に明らかにされ，その病態に基づく分子標的治療の時代に入っている．しかし，一線の神経疾患診療において最も重要なのは病歴に基づいて最短・最速の診断に向かうオリエンテーションであり，この普遍的意義は今後も確固として変わらない．同時に臨床医は，古典的王道の神経診断学と，発展を続ける新技術を有機的に結びつけ，最も効率的な診療を行うことが求められている．
本書の筆者である杉山淳比古博士は，専門領域を画像診断と分子遺伝学とし，かつ大学病院で一線診療に携わる中堅脳神経内科医である．これまでに大御所の先生方が高所からの大原則を述べた神経診断学の教科書は多々あるが，Z世代に近い（筆者にとっては新人類ともいえるユニークな存在である）新進気鋭の脳神経内科医が自身のポリシーを軸に，現在までにupdateされた革新的診断技術を抱合した本書が出版されたことは，まさに時を得た企画といえる．
本書は「古典的診断推論」「プラスアルファとしての画像診断の有効な利用法」「実際の診断例」の順に構成されている．全体にユーモアに富んだ読みやすい文章が記載されており（砕け過ぎと思われる表現が各所に登場するが，逆にそれが本書の売りとして勘弁していただきたい），一気に通読することをお勧めする．問診の仕方や実際の診断例では，まさに臨場感にあふれた臨床に役立つ記述が満載されている．
