• Note (General): 本論文では、長い歴史を持つ日本の中国語教育において、宮島大八の中国語教育とともに同時代の中国語教育を再検証することによって、日本における中国語教育について、その社会的な意義・役割を明確にし、今後の中国語教育の方向性を打ち出すことを目的とした。研究の範囲は、明治初期から戦中（昭和前期）の日本における、宮島大八を中心とした、中国語教本と中国語教育の具体的な内容、さらに宮島の思想や政治活動である。手法としては、宮島の編纂した教本および同時代に刊行された代表的教本類、外務省や文部省の公開資料、先達の語った中国語教育についての体験談、新聞記事を詳細に分析し、宮島の中国語教育について検証・考察し、加えて今後の中国語教育について論じた。
