Note (General): 本研究は，理科教育における仮説の発想（アブダクション）にかかわる考察とそれに基づく教材開発について考察したものである．パースによれば，すべての推論はアブダクション，インダクション，ディダクションの3種類に分けることができるという．パースの3種類の推論は，科学的探究の過程と結び付けて考えることで，それぞれの推論の意味を明確にすることができる．しかし，アブダクションとインダクションの論理形式の違いが不明確であった．そこで，推論を順次性を考慮して4形式に分類した．この分類の考察の結果，アブダクションとインダクションの区別を明確にすることができた．さらに，アブダクションの過程，驚くべき事実の観察と知覚，アブダクションと関係するいくつかの推論形式について考察した結果，アブダクションを明確にすることができた．次に，アブダクションと理科教育，理科教材とかかわりについて考察した．特に，仮説の発想を促し，探究の過程に誘う教材を「アブダクション教材」と名付け，その特徴や重要性について考察した．さらに，数種の教材（水撃ポンプ，燃料電池，静電気教材，寒剤，霧箱）の開発について，その開発過程における思考の流れを詳述することを試みた．この方法を活用することで，すぐれた教材をいくつか開発することができた．本研究は今後の教材開発における一つの指針を示すものと考える．
