• Note (General): application/pdf; 強誘電性と強磁性の両方の性質を兼ね備えたマルチフェロイックが次世代の電子材料として注目されている。これまで，マルチフェロイックは，結晶構造に起因するフラストレートした磁気構造を持つ磁性体で多く発見されている。そこで，本研究では，層状希土類化合物六方晶系ScAl3C3型（空間群P63/mmc）の結晶構造を持つRZn3P3（R = 希土類元素）に着目した。この化合物は，c面内において，R原子が二次元三角格子を形成していることから，磁気的フラストレーション効果が期待される。本研究では，この系の磁気的性質を調べ，磁気的フラストレート効果を検証し，マルチフェロイックの可能性を探ることを目的とし，マルチアンビルプレスを用いた高圧合成法により，層状希土類化合物HoZn3P3および非磁性の参照物質としてYZn3P3の大型試料の高圧合成を試みた。その結果，純良な大型試料の合成に成功した。さらに，得られた試料について電気抵抗，磁化，比熱等の基礎物性測定を行い，磁気特性を詳細に調べた。その結果，HoZn3P3において，5 K付近で磁気転移が確認された。高温度領域の磁化率の解析より，Hoの磁気モーメントは，ほぼ３価の理論値に近い10.4B/Hoと大きな値を持つにもかかわらず，低温まで磁気秩序を示さないことから磁気フラストレート効果が影響しているものと考えられる。また，この転移は，転移温度の磁場依存性や結晶場基底状態の解析により，単純な磁気転移ではなく多極子自由度が関与しているものと考えられる。さらに，HoZn3P3の電気抵抗が低温において近藤効果的な上昇を示すことが分かった。今回得られた結果より層状希土類化合物RZn3P3は，希土類元素の4f電子と伝導電子が関与する近藤効果およびRKKY相互作用に加え，結晶構造に起因する磁気フラストレート効果も伴うユニークな系であり，今後の希土類化合物における磁性分野の研究および次世代の高性能デバイスに不可欠な材料開発の発展に寄与すると考えられる。; Multiferroic, which has both ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties, is attracting attention as a next-generation electronic material. So far, multiferroic has been found in many frustrated magnets related with a geometric frustration. Therefore, in this study, we focused on RZn3P3 (R = rare-earth element), which has a layered rare-earth compound with the hexagonal ScAl3C3 type structure (space group P63/mmc). The compounds are expected to have a magnetic frustration because the R atoms form a two-dimensional triangular lattice in the c-plane. We have tried to synthesize the layered rare-earth compounds HoZn3P3 and YZn3P3 as a non-magnetic reference by a high-pressure synthesis method using a multi-anvil press to investigate the magnetic properties of RZn3P3, verify the magnetic frustration, and explore the possibility of multiferroic. As a result, we succeeded in synthesizing high-quality large samples. Furthermore, basic physical properties such as electrical resistivity, magnetization, and specific heat were measured for the obtained samples, and the magnetic properties were investigated in detail. As a result, HoZn3P3 exhibits a magnetic transition around 5 K. While the effective magnetic moment of Ho has a large value of 10.4B/Ho, which is close to the theoretical value of trivalent ion (Ho3+), from the analysis of the magnetic susceptibility in the high temperature region, the compound does not show magnetic order until low temperatures. This result suggests the existence of a magnetic frustration in HoZn3P3. In addition, the magnetic transition is considered to involve multipole degrees of freedom rather than a simple magnetic transition, based on the analysis of the magnetic field dependence of the transition temperature and the ground state of the crystal electric field. Furthermore, it was shown that the electrical resistivity of HoZn3P3 shows a Kondo-like increase at low temperatures. From the results obtained in this study, the layered rare-earth compound RZn3P3 is a unique system with the Kondo effect and RKKY interaction between 4f electrons of rare-earth elements and conduction electrons, as well as the geometric frustration. It is considered that the study of RZn3P3 contributes to the development of research in the field of magnetism for rare-earth compounds and the system is indispensable for the development of materials for next-generation high-performance devices.
