- 【目的】本稿は，日本の公共図書館における高齢者サービスに関する研究の時期ごとの特徴とその変遷を，高齢者を取り巻く社会的動向と結びつけながら把握し，今後の課題を明らかにすることを目的とする。【方法】まず，高度経済成長期から現在までの日本における高齢者をめぐる社会的動向を文献・ウェブ調査によって明らかにした。用いた主な資料は，厚生労働省や文部科学省が取り組む政策に関するものや，老年学分野の研究成果などである。次に，CiNii Articles, 『図書館情報学文献目録』，カレントアウェアネス・ポータル及び『図書館情報学研究文献要覧』から抽出した168件の文献に焦点をあて，前述の社会的動向と結びつけて，公共図書館における高齢者サービス研究の特徴と変遷について考察した。【結果】分析の結果，日本の公共図書館における高齢者サービス研究が「第I期：高齢者に対する意識の萌芽」,「第II期：サービスの模索の開始」,「第III期：独立した利用者カテゴリーへの移行」,「第IV期：高齢者への認識の深化及び対策の多様化」, 「第V期：認知症への注目及び連携に向けた模索」に分けられ，時期ごとに違いが見られるが，高齢者をめぐる社会的動向は多くの場合，タイミングよく図書館・情報学の研究に反映されていることが明らかとなった。さらに，今後の高齢者サービス研究における重要な課題として，高齢者の実態の把握を継続的に行うことと，多様な視点からサービスの議論を行うことの2点が存在することが導き出された。
