明治時代初期まで、不忍池は北から藍染川がそそぎ、今と比べると北西の端が突き出た形をしていた。明治12年に設立された共同競馬会社は、池の周囲を競馬場として使用するために、同17年に不忍池の北西の突き出た部分を埋め立て、今日のようなゆるやかな楕円形に整備し、同年11月1日に第1回不忍池競馬が開催された。...
