Note (General)
This document is the first volume of "Okinawa-shi (Ryukyu-shi) "which was published by Ijichi Sadaka in 1877. (There are five volumes in total.) Ijichi Sadaka had been involved in affairs of Ryukyu and the establishment of Ryukyu-han and institutional reform since Meiji Restoration. Along his duties as administrative officer, he learned and studied the land, folklore and local products of Ryukyu. Its contents are considered to be highly credible. This document was prefaced by the renown scholar Nakamura Keiu who will later become a professor at the Tokyo University and Oka Senjin (a member of former Sendai-han ) The included maps and pictures are valuable historic materials for learning about Okinawa at that time.
