Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Sumiyoshi Taisha

Located in Osaka City, this is the head shrine of all Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan. The four main buildings, built in what is called the Sumiyoshi-zukuri style, are designated as National Treasures. KAWABATA Yasunari's novel Sori-Hashi is set on the Sorihashi (also known as the "drum bridge") of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.
