16.Saving Bibliographic Records to a File

16-1. Saving bibliographic information to a file

You can save bibliographic information to a file by selecting a format on the bibliographic details page, search result list, or My List page. Click the Bibliographic Information Output icon to open the output dialog.

  • Only bibliographic information (metadata) is saved, not the full text of the material.

Bibliographic Information Output Dialog

Select your preferred format from the dialog and click the Output button to save the bibliographic information to a file.

TSV, Bibtex, DC-NDL (RDF), and JSON formats are available for all bibliographies. When saving bibliographies that bundle multiple media types, the only the bibliographic information for a typical multiple media type is output. Please use an API if you require bibliographic information for each different format.
The MARC and MARC tag formats are only available NDL bibliographic information. When a material has multiple material forms, the data for each media type is separate. The media type and bibliographic ID are displayed in the dialog to allow you to select the material format you want to use.

Restrictions on saving multiple bibliographies to a file

You can select multiple bibliographies from the search results list and your My List page to be saved to a file all at once. If you select the MARC/MARC tag format, however, only bibliographies that are available in the MARC/MARC tag format will be saved to a file.
When outputting in MARC/MARC tag format, please consider using the Web Japanese National Bibliography, which allows you to search and output bibliographic data by focusing on national bibliographic data, or the Web NDL Catalog, which allows you to search and output bibliographic data of tangible materials of the National Diet Library.

16-2. Metadata formats

NDL Search primarily provides metadata in the following formats: DC-NDL (RDF), JSON, tsv format, and BibTeX.
In addition, bibliographies (bibliographies of tangible materials, etc.) created by the NDL can be downloaded in MARC format.
*DC-NDL (Simple) was discontinued in December 2023.

DC-NDL(RDF)

Refer to DC-NDL (RDF) format specification for details on RDF/XML format specifications.

JSON

Metadata from the NDL Search can be saved in JSON format, but doing so places some limitations on the metadata that is output. Refer to JSON Format Specification ver.1.3 (2021.01.04)(PDF) for details on JSON format specifications.

MARC

The NDL Search provides bibliographies (bibliographies of tangible materials, etc.) created by the National Diet Library in JAPAN/MARC MARC21 format (MARC format (ISO 2709) and MARC tag format via the Web Japanese National Bibliography and Web NDL Catalog websites.
Refer to JAPAN/MARC Manual Format for details on JAPAN/MARC MARC21 format specifications.
