明治初期の本県全域の詳細な地図で、現在の「山形県」の形となった、統一山形県成立（明治９年８月）後に作成された絵図である。　絵図とともに「山形県管内各町村一覧科目表」として、町村ごとの「戸数」「人口」「地価」「学校」等を記した詳細な一覧表が掲載されており貴重である。　一覧表にある数値は脚注に、「余白ニ掲クル各町村地価反別戸数人口ノ如キハ明治十年ノ計算ニ拠リ警察各分署学校ノ如キハ本年ノ調査ヲ以テス」（旧字体は新字体で表記）等とあり、明治10年（1877）と明治11年の調査に拠るものであると、明治11年５月、佐藤周藏が記している。
