第一章 考えはじめたらとまらない問答
この本であつかうのは、「語録の王」と称される『臨済録』におさめられた禅問答で
す。『臨済録』は、臨済義玄(?～866)の語録です。語録とは、禅僧のおこなった説法や問答などをあつめたもので、その名を冠した語録が編まれるのは、その禅僧がたいへんな大物だという証なのです。
じっさい臨済は、中国禅宗史にあって屈指のビッグ・ネームで、彼こそは Mr.禅ともいうべき禅者です。ここでは臨済が黄檗のもとで悟りをひらくにいたる逸話から読んでゆきます。
荒唐無稽な答えの奥に隠された論理性や禅の教えにうなり、つい「もう一問」と考えてみたくなる、そんな問答を集めました。
