- 【目的】本論の目的は，存在論という視点で，哲学と図書館情報学の関係を検討することである。【方法】本論は，図書館情報学における文献に基づく分析を行う。Gnoliの存在論的な複数主義に関わる論文とHjørlandの存在論的な一元論に関わる論文が比較検討される。【結果】Gnoliの複数主義とHjørlandの一元論の間の係争点は，以下の三つであることが指摘される。一つ目は，心の哲学における二元論が非科学的かどうかということ，二つ目は，ドキュメントとは何かということ，三つ目は，抽象的存在者についてどのように考えるべきかということである。そして，それらの論点については，以下の三つのことが明らかにされる。一つ目は，心の哲学における二元論や複数主義を非科学的という理由で簡単に捨て去ることはできないということである。二つ目は，Gnoliが抽象的存在者としてのメンティファクトを認めようとしている一方で，Hjørlandは物的存在者としてのドキュメントを考えるならば事足りると考えているので，存在論を検討する際に，心の哲学での二元論と一元論の対立だけが問題ではないということである。三つ目は，抽象的存在者が必要かどうかに関しては，両者の当該の議論だけでは決定的な答えを出すことができないということである。しかし，GnoliとHjørlandの論争を比較検討することによって，存在論における論争を解決するための手がかりが示される。その手がかりとは，図書館情報学における研究課題を解決できるかどうか，図書館情報学における中心的な現象をうまく説明できるかどうかということである。
