Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Atsuta Jingu Shrine

A shrine located in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. It enshrines the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan. Since the Kamakura Shogunate, many warlords have worshipped there. It is especially known for ODA Nobunaga praying there for victory before the Battle of Okehazama. As a token of his great victory, the Nobunaga Bei Wall, one of the three greatest earthen walls in Japan, was donated to the shrine.
