Ise Jingu
A shrine located in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. It consists of the Naiku (Inner Shrine), which enshrines Amaterasu Omikami, and the Geku (Outer Shrine), which enshrines Toyouke Omikami, the deity of food, clothing, and housing. Yata-no-Kagami, one of the three sacred treasures, is housed in the shrine as a shintai (vessel for the gods). During the Edo period, people began to visit Ise in large groups, known as "Okage-mairi", or pilgrimages to the shrine.
