Kannonzaki

A cape at the eastern end of the Miura Peninsula in Yokosuka, Kanagawa. In 1812, a ship watchtower and a fort were established to guard Edo Bay. In 1869, the first Western-style lighthouse in Japan was lit. In 1880, the Kannonzaki No. 1 and No. 2 Gun Batteries, the first Western-style gun batteries in Japan, were established, pioneering the fortification of Tokyo Bay.
