Yokohama
The capital of Kanagawa Prefecture. Since the opening of Yokohama Port in 1859 after the conclusion of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and the United States, the city developed as an international trading city. Since the Meiji era, the city has modernized as a gateway to Western culture, leading to the growth of heavy industries and chemical industries. Today, it plays a central role in the Keihin Industrial Zone, along with neighboring Kawasaki.
