Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Massaki

The area along the west coast of the Sumida-gawa River north of the Hashiba ferry. The Massaki Inari-jinja Shrine and Ishihara Shinmei-gu Shrine (present day Ishihama Shrine) are located in the area and were known as spots with scenic views of the Sumida-gawa River. Massaki Inari-jinja Shrine was merged with Ishihama-jinja Shrine in 1926. It was often depicted in nishiki-e facing across at the "Suijin no Mori" forest on the opposite shore, which was in reality slightly more to the north.
