Wakasa Bay
A subsidence bay in the Sea of Japan extending from Cape Echizen in Fukui Prefecture to Cape Kyogamisaki on the Tango Peninsula in Kyoto Prefecture. It has a well-developed rias coast, and the Mikata-goko (Five Lakes of Mikata), National Places of Scenic Beauty, are located on its coast. Since ancient times, marine products from the bay have been presented to the capital and the Imperial Court. In recent years, the road used to transport the products to Kyoto has been called the "Saba Kaido" (Mackerel Highway).
