Extension of expiry date of user information is not available via NDL Search, etc. during the year-end and New Year's holidays

User registration of the National Diet Library is valid for three years from the date of registration. Each time you use the NDL's services, the validity period will be automatically extended to three years after the date you use them. After three years have passed from either the date of user registration, the last time you entered the NDL (either the Tokyo Main Library, the Kansai-kan or the Researchers' Reading Room of the International Children's Literature), the last time you logged into NDL web services by entering your User ID and password or the date you used the Remote Photoduplication service (the date when the NDL accepted your request for the service), your user information will expire.

For the following patrons, registered user information may expire between the end of the year 2024 and the beginning of the year 2025.

  • Patrons who registered between December 2021 and January 2022 and have not had the opportunity to use the NDL's services since then.
  • Patrons who registered prior to December 2021 and for who it will have been three years since the last use of NDL services as of the end of the year 2024 and the beginning of the year 2025.

1. Extension of expiry date

The NDL will be closed from December 27 (Fri.), 2024 to January 6 (Mon.), 2025 for the year-end and New Year's holidays. In addition, due to system maintenance, patrons will not be able to log in to NDL Search from 18:00, December 27 (Fri.), 2024, to January 6 (Mon.), 2025.
We recommend that patrons extend the expiry date of their user registration by following the instructions below by December 26 (Thu.), 2024.

1-1. Extension of expiry date by logging into NDL web services

Patrons can extend the expiry date by logging into NDL Search, Mina Search or the National Diet Library Digital Collections with their User ID and password.
Patrons can also check the expiry date of their user registration on NDL Search and Mina Search.

1-2. Extension of expiry date by entering the NDL

If patrons wish to extend the expiry date of their user information by entering the NDL, please visit the Tokyo Main Library, the Kansai-kan or the Researchers' Reading Room of the ILCL by December 26 (Thu.), 2024, the last day the NDL will be open in 2024.
If patrons have lost their registered user card, it is necessary to have the card reissued before entering the NDL. Please remember to bring identification documents such as a driver's license.

* Please note that the ILCL cannot reissue registered user cards or passwords.

If user information expires due to not following methods 1-1 or 1-2 above, the user information will be deleted. To use the service as a registered user, it will be necessary to re-register as a user.

2. How to confirm the expiry date

The expiry date is displayed on the My Account & Settings page as "Expiration Date". Since the expiry date is automatically extended at the time of login with entering User ID and password, the date three years in the future will be displayed.

After logging in, click "My Account" in the upper right corner of the screen to open the My Account & Settings page. If you do not know how to log in, please refer to each Help on NDL Search or Mina Search.
