Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Enakyo Gorge

A scenic spot spreading along the Kiso River in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture. It is a grand canyon centering on a lake created by the Oi Dam, which dammed the rapids of the Kiso River, and stretches across Nakatsugawa, Ena, Hirukawa, and Fukuoka. There are strangely shaped rocks and stones such as the Byobu Iwa, Karakasa Iwa, and Gunkan Iwa formed by the rapid flow of the Kiso River, and the scenery looks impressive in every season.
