Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Kokura

Kokura Castle was built by HOSOKAWA Tadaoki in 1602, and later became a castle town ruled by the Ogasawara domain. In 1876, Kokura was merged with Fukuoka Prefecture and prospered as the center of the Kitakyushu industrial area, due to its commerce and munitions industry.
