Naitoshinjuku

A posting station which was located between the Nihonbashi bridge and Takaido along the Koshu-kaido Road. One of the Edo-shishuku (four famous posting stations in Edo. The origin is that the Kanto Sobugyo (the General Magistrate of Kanto region) Naito Kiyonari granted land for a residence from Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1590. In 1698, a posting station was established in a portion of the second residence of the Shinshu Takato Clan Naito family, and was named "Shinjuku" (new posting station) compared to the existing posting station at Takaidojuku. The Koshu-kaido Road also served a role as an industrial road, and horse droppings were conspicuous.
