Oga Peninsula
A peninsula in western Akita Prefecture that juts out into the Sea of Japan. Once separated from the mainland, it is now connected to the mainland by Hachiro Lagoon. The coast is lined with strange rocks. One of the oddly shaped rocks, Ryugashima, was shaped like a dragon's head, but its upper part fell off in the 1939 Oga earthquake. Oga Peninsula is also famous for its namahage, which are believed to be incarnations of deities.
