Mogami River
A river in Yamagata Prefecture. Its basin area accounts for about 76% of the total area of Yamagata Prefecture. The river has been used for water transportation since ancient times, and from the Edo period, when the river route was developed by excavating difficult spots, to the Meiji era, when the railroad was opened, the river connected Yamagata, Edo, and the Kansai region not only in terms of goods but also in terms of culture. It is one of the three most rapid rivers in Japan.
