Exploring Japanese Landmarks in Nishiki-e and Photographs

Hirosaki Castle

Hirosaki Castle, located in Hirosaki, Aomori, is the only castle in the Tohoku region with an existing keep built in the Edo period. The original keep was destroyed by lightning in 1611, and the present keep was rebuilt in 1810. The entire castle area is now Hirosaki Park, known as a cherry blossom viewing spot.
